Laidlaw Schools Trust cements healthy status

17th July 2015

Excelsior, Thomas Walling Primary and Atkinson Road Primary Academies are all celebrating their re-accreditation as official Healthy Schools.

All three academies in the Laidlaw Schools Trust were rewarded for their promotion of a healthy lifestyle to their hundreds of pupils with certificates at a ceremony in Newcastle’s Novotel.

The schools’ action plans were formally approved by the Healthy Schools Assurance Group, recognising the hard work put in to meet rigorous quality standards to promote healthy lifestyles for children.

The award sets tough targets for schools to meet including healthy eating, physical activity, health education and personal well-being.

The Newcastle Healthy School Programme run by Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust recognises schools which have met stringent quality standards to promote a healthy way of living.

The Laidlaw Schools Trust takes great pride in its schools leading the education of its young people to help them make healthy lifestyle choices, recognising the benefits this has not only on their education, but also in their future lives.

Excelsior Academy raises awareness of the impact of alcohol and smoking on young people’s lives, taking this message out into the community to educate parents as well so they know as much as they can about healthy lifestyle choices.
